8 June 2009, Kaiserslautern - For the simulation of nonwoven
processes and production steps of technical textiles the Fraunhofer Institute
for Industrial Mathematics ITWM, has developed the FIDYST (Fiber Dynamics
Simulation Tool) software tool.
The simulations are based on the balance of all acting
forces along the fibres or filaments. In the past FIDYST was successfully used
for a simulation based optimization of spunbond machinery for Oerlikon Neumag.
In recent months the models for filament-fluid interaction and filament-wall
interaction have been improved.
The model for the influence of the turbulent air flow on the
filaments has also been enhanced and implemented in a new, more detailed
stochastical model. Tangential air flows in particular are better represented
by the new model. For the contact of filaments with machinery parts (e.g.
conveyor belt) the modelling possibilities inside the simulations have been
enlarged to simulate more complex production machinery. Further investigations
are being carried out for the simulation of melt-blown processes. FIDYST is
being exhibited at Techtextil on stand H16 in hall 3.0.
