25 January 2010, Salt
Lake City – Naturally Advanced Technologies Inc. (NAT), a company committed to
producing renewable and environmentally sustainable textile fibres, has teamed
up with Patrick Yarns, a manufacturer of high-performance industrial yarns, to
give industry insiders a sneak preview at a group of new sustainable yarns made
from Crailar Organic Fibers, a wholly owned subsidiary of NAT, at this weekend’s
Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2010 trade show Salt Lake City. Company
representatives were on site to introduce the new yarns designed for use in
outerwear, work wear, denim, footwear, carpet, and upholstery and home
furnishings.
"Patrick Yarns has a long history of working with
innovative partners to create eco-friendly industrial yarns," said Gilbert
Patrick, CEO of Patrick Yarns. "Naturally Advanced Technologies is leading
innovation in the green textile industry; it is a great opportunity to work
with NAT as we incorporate Crailar Organic Fibers into our line of sustainable
products."
Patrick Yarns has successfully blended Crailar Organic
Fibers with a number of natural and synthetic fibres in its Kings Mountain,
N.C. processing facility, and is the first manufacturer to integrate Crailar into
yarns for commercial use.
Naturally Advanced Technologies says it is poised to
revolutionize the textile industry with Crailar Organic Fibers, a
cost-effective and sustainable alternative to organic cotton and synthetics. Crailar
Organic Fibers are made from hemp, long known as one of the most sustainable
crops in existence. The ultra-strong hemp fibres are transformed through the
all-natural Crailar process, which preserves their tensile strength while
enhancing their texture and feel. The result is a 100-percent organic fibre
that's as strong and durable as hemp, yet soft and breathable like organic
cotton, NAT says.
"Our partnership with Patrick Yarns is an important
component of our expansion strategy," said Ken Barker, CEO of Naturally
Advanced Technologies Inc. "Our goal is to make Crailar the go-to brand
for organic, sustainable fibres that provide the comfort, performance and cost
benefits eco-conscious consumers demand. We believe Patrick Yarns can help us
achieve our goal."
