Euratex, the European Apparel and Textile Confederation representing interests of the European textile and clothing industry, welcomes Serge Piolat as its President taking the office in January 2015 for a two year term.

“Alberto Paccanelli achieved impressive results in consolidating the voice of the European textile and apparel companies,” commented Mr Piolat, succeeding Alberto Paccanelli, who headed Euratex during the last four years.

“To further enhance our industry my intention is to concentrate on a few priority areas, namely genuine industrial policy, free and fair trade, research and innovation support and sustainable production.”

Ambitious programme

Mr Piolat has worked out an ambitious programme to be accomplished during his presidency. As an experienced entrepreneur, he believes that European trade associations should always work hand in hand with industry. Euratex has to be aware of companies’ actual needs to efficiently support policy makers in strengthening the European textile and clothing manufacturing.

Serge Piolat is convinced that growth will come from increased exports. Thus, trade facilitation will play a central role in Euratex agenda as the companies are striving to get access to the third markets. Euratex will continue promoting an international level playing field to expand our industry in the world.

Extensive experience

Serge Piolat has an extensive international experience in the textile industry. He built a career in the Porcher Industries Group – the world class fabrics producer, leader in the technical textiles sector. Currently he is a co-owner of SCHAPPE, a French Group of companies specialised in the production of technical spun yarns.

Committed to numerous collective actions of the French textile associations, Mr Piolat also has an advanced expertise at the European level – he has been a member of Euratex Board of Directors since 2009 and acted as Vice-President since 2011.

Realising growth

The EU textile and apparel companies produce top quality products and innovative goods. Euratex will keep doing its utmost to increase companies’, namely SMEs’, knowledge and access to the European programmes aimed to facilitate research and innovation, for example, Horizon2020 and COSME.

The textile and fashion products made in the EU are exceptional in terms of the respect of the environment, consumer safety and labour rights, the association reports. Thus, Euratex will increase communication about the European products’ excellence and responsiveness to social challenges.

Euratex new President counts on the support from both the national associations and the European institutions in order to realise his programme and enhance the growth of the European textile and clothing industry.
