Lenzing has announced the launch of its first product made from Tencel which is specifically designed for use in face masks. Tencel Skin, which has been specially developed for substrates used in face masks for skin care applications will go on show at next month’s ANEX nonwovens show in Korea.

Lenzing says it has launched the product to meet the needs of top international brands which are developing extensive product portfolios featuring advanced skin care products such as those delivered via facemasks.

The use of face masks is well established in Asia and is said to be an indispensible part of a skin care regime for millions of men and women. The trend is now spreading globally with consumers in the U.S. and Europe now also said to be becoming aware of the benefits.

According to Lenzing, Tencel Skin is a natural product which is bio-degradable and compostable.

The cellulose fibres are said to feature the highest possible level of purity and are made from the renewable raw material wood which Lenzing says is sourced from responsibly managed forests. The unique nano-fibril structure of Tencel Skin is said to provide optimum compatibility with lotion.

“Tencel Skin is the quality choice in face mask application. Its gentle and smooth surface provides unrivalled comfort to end users,” says Elisabeth Stanger, Global Marketing Director Business Unit Nonwovens.

“Lenzing is delighted to offer this new innovation to the health and beauty industry. Feel nature pamper your skin!”

Speaking of the phenomenon Wolfgang Plasser, Vice President and General Manager of Lenzing’s Business Unit Nonwovens, says:

“We are constantly seeking exciting new end uses for our sustainable fibres, as well as developing new fibre types. Lenzing, as a leader in fibre innovation, makes considerable investments each year in research and development. Tencel Skin resulting from our R&D work is the choice for the next generation of face mask products.”
