Fiberpartner has entered an exclusive partnership with fellow Danish company Pond Global AS for the development, production and marketing of bio-based plastics for staple fibres.
The technology has been under development since 2017 and is now available for commercial use.
Fiberpartner aims to offer a bio-based alternative to traditional polyester fibres and during the second half of 2023 will introduce a diverse range of fibere, including solid and bico-fibres, that can be seamlessly bonded to natural fibres.
The products possess the same qualities as conventional polyester fibres, including softness, touch, elongation and tenacity, while making a significant contribution to reducing CO2 footprint. They are not only biodegradable but also home compostable, allowing for a return to nature.
The range of feedstocks for these new fibres includes non-food grade corn and sugar cane, and more are currently being developed.
