Intrinsic Advanced Materials (IAM) has received the 2024 Sustainable Technology Provider of the Year Award at the World Sustainability Awards for itsdevelopment of CiCLO.
The awards programme is organised by London-based World Sustainability Leaders, a global community and intelligence network for CSOs and ESG executives working to accelerate sustainability initiatives. It serves as a benchmark for impactful progress, celebrating influential achievements in environmental sustainability across multiple industries.
Presented at a recent ceremony in Amsterdam, the award recognises IAM, one of eight companies shortlisted, as a technology provider having a transformative impact on the environment.
CiCLO enables plastic-based textiles that would otherwise exist indefinitely to biodegrade at rates similar to natural fibres such as wool. It is patented and proven safe for use through Oeko-Tex Eco Passport certification, as well as rigorous third-party biodegradation studies conducted using internationally recognised ASTM and ISO test methods. Over 100 million pounds of CiCLO have already been produced for brands including Target, Lane Bryant, Oakley and Billabong.
IAM is a joint venture formed in 2018 between Intrinsic Textiles Group, a Silicon Valley startup, and Parkdale Advanced Materials, a leading global manufacturer of spun yarns.
“We are honored to be recognized alongside distinguished global brand winners like Heineken, Unilever, Eastman and Coca-Cola,” said IAM co-founder Andrea Ferris. “CiCLO fibres were invented from a conviction that ‘built to last’ shouldn’t mean ‘here forever’. Notwithstanding the challenges of commercialising a scientific technology in the convoluted, often misunderstood industry of biodegradable plastics, I’m thrilled to wake every day with the opportunity to make a huge positive impact on our environment. This award celebrates our collective commitment to pushing boundaries, creating change, and improving natural environments worldwide,”
