SGL Group, the leading manufacturer of carbon fibre, is taking part in this year's Carbon 2015 world conference on carbon that takes place in Dresden from 12-17 July, both in terms of preparation and participation.

In his capacity as President of the German Carbon Group (AKK) of the German Ceramic Society (DKG), which is organizing the event, Dr Wilhelm Frohs from the Research and Development department of SGL Group is responsible for arranging the conference, which takes place every year at different locations in Asia, America and Europe.

Following Berlin in 2000, Dresden is only the second city in Germany to host the event since it was launched as the Annual World Conference on Carbon. This year, approximately 600 people from the worlds of science and business are attending.

 Products and solutions

In addition to posters and talks contributed by SGL developers, SGL Group will also be presenting its products and solutions involving carbon at its own information stand.

In terms of content, key areas will include lightweight construction with carbon fibre composites, as well as carbon and graphite materials for energy systems, such as lithium-ion batteries, redox flow batteries and fuel cells – two of SGL Group's current most important areas of innovation.

New research results

The conference will focus on presenting new research results concerning later, innovative applications for global megatrends, such as energy management, electric mobility, medicine and environmental technology. As part of this, the prompt transfer of research and development activities to practical application will be a central topic for the SGL employees attending.

“With our firm commitment at Carbon 2015, we aim to demonstrate our leading position in the market with regard to carbon and give visitors a chance to see our innovative prowess, from research and development through to production and practical application,” commented Dr Gerd Wingefeld, member of the Board of Management of SGL Group.
