TenCate Mirafi RS580i has outperformed all geosynthetics tested by the Western Transportation Institute at Montana State University in Bozeman, (MT) USA.

This independent full scale unpaved roadway performance study called ‘The Relative Operational Performance of Geosynthetics Used as Subgrade Stabilization’ was recently completed.

The study was fully funded by nine US State Departments of Transportation and included eight biaxial geogrids, two multiaxial geogrids and two geotextiles.

Better roadway performance

According to the Montana State University study the accumulation of rut as a function of truck passes revealed that the TenCate Mirafi RS580i woven geotextile performed the best. In fact, TenCate Mirafi RS580i also provided the best traffic benefit (TBR) ratio and the best base course reduction (BCR) factor when compared to all tested geosynthetics.

“The results of an BCR analysis indicated that the greatest reduction in base thickness was approximately 26.9% for TenCate Mirafi RS580i corresponding to a difference of 4.0 in. of gravel. The greatest TBR analyses was achieved by using TenCate Mirafi RS580i geotextile, resulting in an improvement of almost 11 times the traffic level when compared to the unreinforced test section.”

According to the manufacturer, these findings prove that incorporating TenCate Mirafi RS580i will result in better roadway performance, sustainable use of materials, and faster construction - key benefits for all owners.

Significant investment

Todd Anderson, Vice President Sales & Marketing, commented: “We are extremely excited about the results of these scientific tests. Studies such as this reinforce the real value of our significant investment in both product innovation and comprehensive technical expertise, two key components of our ongoing strategy to develop and market the best geosynthetics in the world.”

“We are very proud of the excellent work the TenCate team of engineers accomplished throughout the process. They deserve all the credit for making this such a great success.”
