Buff, the Barcelona, Spain-headquartered manufacturer of neckwear, headbands, beanies, caps and balaclavas reports positive progress in its just-published Sustainability Report for the period of May 2022 to April 2023.

The company was founded in 1992, initially to promote proprietary seamless tubular neckwear for outdoor protection, and has grown into a brand with 361 employees at its Barcelona HQ, operations in more than 70 countries and 2022/23 sales of €47.8 million.

It has recently become B Corp certified, with a first score of 105.7 well above average, and has also relocated the production of several of its cap styles from Asia to its factory in Barcelona, expanding and setting up specific new production lines and training up more than 70 new employees to run them.

Buff now produces 93% of its products at the Barcelona factory, which operates 100% on renewable energy, and 67% of its suppliers are also located within Spain.

In 2022/23, 80% of the products it sold were based on natural or recycled materials, supplemented by PET polyester from 41 million recycled bottles.

The company has already achieved global carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions at its HQ and branches, well ahead of its 2030 target, and has additionally invested in high-quality offset credits from the Yacumama Forest Carbon Project in Peru, while acknowledging that offsetting is not a final solution. Buff remains dedicated to continually reducing its carbon footprint while actively monitoring advancements in science-based knowledge.

“The year was not without obstacles to overcome, but there have also been great accomplishments to celebrate,” said CEO David Camps. “I want to express my gratitude to those who have gone above and beyond to embrace new challenges and provide solutions. As a global leader in our industry and with a solid strategy, Buff is well-positioned to tackle the years ahead successfully.”
