Trerè Innovation, a leader in technical apparel, footwear design and manufacturing based in Asola, Italy, is launching a range of 100% bio-based base layers under the UYN (Use Your Nature) brand in the USA.

The UYN high-performance base layers will be made in Pennsylvania and will be available at select retailers and online this Autumn, when the brand will also open its first US store in Boston.

“UYN is delivering the next generation of planet-friendly fabrics from responsibly harvested beech plants, castor oil seeds, kapok and eucalyptus trees and corn, among others, using proprietary manufacturing processes at our in-house facilities,” said Trerè Innovation CEO Marco Redini,. “Our academy for research and engineering enables our designers to create the highest quality garments, footwear and accessories meeting the most stringent performance standards and resulting in best-in-class quality. Our base layers are trusted by nine respected ski teams around the globe and with these assets and our proven expertise, we intend to replicate our success in Europe in the USA, because the timing is right.”

Growth

Trerè Innovation was founded by Redini’s father in 1950, initially producing only stockings and entering the sportswear market in 1984 when it experienced unprecedented growth. After perfecting its approach to bio-based manufacturing processes, the company introduced the UYN brand in 2018 in 27 countries including Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. It has subsequently built a global network providing design and technical expertise and today manufactures products for brands including Christian Dior, Harley-Davidson, Puma and Rossignol. UYN designs have garnered numerous awards including the 2022 ISPO Award, 2022 Red Dot Design Award and 2021 Design Intelligence Award (DIA).

Trerè Innovation’s Academy for Research and Engineering in Apparel and Sports (AREAS) is equipped with a climate wind tunnel, thermal mannequins, a rain room, a 3D body scanner and a sports medicine department.

Biofibres developed by the company include Biolight, a plant-based fibre extracted from beech trees in responsibly managed forests that is breathable, bright, soft and able to retain twice as much moisture as cotton. Ecolypt is a 100% sustainable natural fibre from eucalyptus providing strength and elasticity and Flexicorn a bio-polyester yarn derived from corn that is extremely elastic, wrinkle and UV-resistant and keeps its original shape longer than synthetic fibres.

Kapok is the lightest organic fibre in the world and used for its natural insulation, hypoallergenic, softnes and antibacterial properties and Natex is a 100% bio-based material made from castor oil seeds that is lightweight, elastic and bacteriostatic for minimising odours.

UYN is also the first brand to make footwear out of socks without seams and uses natural materials including paper cotton, merino and yak wool, as well as bio-based materials including Natex and Ecolypt in their construction.
