Composites UK has released the names of the shortlisted nominees for its 2015 composites industry awards. The winners will be announced at the Awards Dinner that will be held on 4 November at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham NEC complex, coinciding with the Advanced Engineering Show.

“The black-tie Awards Dinner has gone from strength-to-strength since we aligned it with the Advanced Engineering Show where we’ve seen a sharp rise in entries to the awards and attendees,” said Claire Whysall, Communications Manager at Composites UK.

“Companies tend to come along as the event is at the end of the first show day to thank their employees for a good first day working on the stand, meeting up with customers or simply the natural networking opportunity the Dinner brings.”

Shortlisted entries

The awards are presented in eight categories as well as an Outstanding Contribution to the Composites Industry award allocated to someone who the Composites UK Board of Directors feel should be commended for their work in supporting the growth of the UK industry.

The 2015 shortlisted two entries for each award are as follows:

  • Innovation in Materials – Atkins, EcoTecnilin
  • Innovation in Manufacture - Structural Science Composites, Trelleborg
  • Innovation in Design - Far UK, London Underground
  • Health and Safety Award - Hexion CCT, MPM
  • Environmental/Sustainability Award – Techlan, Von Roll UK
  • Trainee/Apprentice Award - Ashley Parkinson, NCC, Ben Freeman, Aircelle
  • Employee of the Year - Claire Wright, TenCate, John Dobbin, MPM
  • Employer of the Year – MPM, Prodrive

The shortlisted entries for the Innovation awards will be presenting in a dedicated session at the Advanced Engineering Show on 4 November in Open Forum Area 3.

Sponsorship opportunities

The Awards Dinner also brings sponsorship opportunities with MPM (Bradford) and Dark Matter Composites being lead sponsors of this year’s dinner. Axillium, the National Composites Centre and Composites in Manufacturing Magazine are also supporting the event through the sponsorship of awards.

“MPM continue to sponsor and support the awards as we think it is an excellent opportunity for companies and individuals to be rewarded and recognised for continued progress and improvements, which can only improve and promote the UK composite sector and UK manufacturing as a whole,” commented Ben Wilson, Director at MPM.

“The awards ceremony gets better year-on-year and with further progress and innovations from UK industry, it will only continue to grow.”
