The advanced infusion technology of MEL Composites continues to be exploited in the designs of Sasga Yachts.

Since its establishment in 1997, Sasga Yachts, formerly known as Menorquín Yachts, has been synonymous with classic motor yacht design inspired by the traditional llaüt fishing boats of the Balearic Islands. The company has collaborated with MEL Composites since 2011 to introduce resin infusion techniques to its manufacturing processes.

The partnership between the three Spanish companies MEL Composites, Sasga Yachts and naval architect Barracuda Yacht Design commenced with the development of the Menorquín 42 project. MEL worked closely with Sasga Yachts to optimise construction details for a safer, more cost-effective infusion strategy.

The successful implementation of resin infusion for the Menorquín 42 laid the foundation for further collaboration, culminating in the development of the Menorquín 54 and extending to boats up to 68 feet in length.

Central to the success of this collaboration is MEL’s comprehensive approach, supplying custom raw material kits tailored to Sasga Yachts specifications and dedicated on-site training and support for the infusion process. By providing a complete package comprising resins, fabrics, Aircell cores, consumables, and tools, MEL Composites ensures seamless integration and optimal performance, elevating Sasga’s manufacturing standards.

MEL Composites CEO Eduardo Galofre emphasises the importance of planning and material selection in achieving a successful infusion strategy.

“Understanding the synergies between materials and consumables is paramount in realising the full potential of resin infusion,” he says. “Our partnership with Sasga Yachts is an example of our commitment to delivering tailored solutions and technical support that enhance efficiency and performance.”

As a result of MEL’s expertise, Sasga Yachts has optimised its production methods, resulting in stronger, lighter vessels with superior performance. Resin infusion not only improves efficiency but also enhances working conditions for the company’s technicians.
