Solico Engineering’s collaboration with partners Armacell and Holland Composites on the 14,000-square-metre Duplicor façade of the Pulse building in Amsterdam was a finalist in this year’s JEC World Innovation Awards.

Developers, architects, and civil engineers have searched for a material solution that delivers the free-form design possibilities, low weight and minimal maintenance of composites while also meeting cost, fire resistance and sustainability targets.

All of these stipulations are met with Duplicor, a bio-based, fire-resistant and low CO2 composite solution developed by Holland Composites, in combination with Armacell’s recycled PET foam technology.

With Solico’s engineering optimisation, the Pulse project’s installation time was reduced and the building has achieved an outstanding BREEAM rating for sustainable construction. The Pulse façade incorporates approximately 1,100 composite elements, each measuring 3.6 x 3.8 metres.

At JEC World 2024, Solico, based in Oosterhout in the Netherlands, will also present a number of engineering projects covering all aspects of the composites industry, including the defence, maritime and industrial sectors.
