Representing three years of development work and a €2 million investment, Chomarat has successfully commissioned a new unidirectional carbon fibre reinforcement line designed to meet the specific technical needs of composite parts manufacturers.
It is enabling the production of a new range of functionalised and competitive UD carbon materials with properties including increased permeability for optimised infusion processes which are ideal for manufacturing thick parts, enhanced ply stability during handling and preforming and adaptability to preforming needs, through a variety of powders suitable for RTM (rapid transfer moulding) processes.
It also provides the company with the flexibility to work with 12k, 24k and 50k carbon fibre grades.
“Our new range of unidirectional carbon reinforcements has already attracted major supercar manufacturers, and we are targeting other sectors such as marine, wind energy and construction,” says Francisco De Oliveira, Chomarat’s director of advanced composites at.
Since its launch in 2011, the thin plies and closed angles of C-Ply, Chomarat’s NCF reinforcement, have resulted in many new applications. With the introduction of new UD reinforcements at this week’s JEC World exhibition in Paris (March 4-6) Chomarat is offering a complete range of uni-, bi-, tri- or quadriaxial NCFs with ply weights ranging from 50 gsm to 600 gsm.
With production capabilities in France and the United States, Chomarat’s C-Ply range can precisely meet the needs of composite part manufacturers in both Europe and North America.
