This follows the 2017 opening of the Burbo Bank Extension offshore windfarm on the UK’s opposite coast beyond Merseyside, with its 32 turbines each of which are taller than London’s Gherkin tower, at 195metres from sea level to blade tip.
The first of 174 monopiles have now been installed at the Hornsea Project One site, which is expected to become operational in 2020. The wind farm is being developed by Ørsted (formerly Dong Energy) and will produce enough power for well over one million homes.
