The CSG will operate in a similar way to the Network Group for Composites in Construction (NGCC), which was dissolved at its AGM in April this year, but with renewed focus and within the framework of Composite UK, giving members access to a wider range of benefits from holding a Composites UK membership.
Forum for discussion
The CSG will provide a forum for discussion of common issues of working with fibre-reinforced polymer composites (FRPs) in construction looking to find solutions to these matters, as well as outward facing dissemination of best practice.
The activities of the CSG will be guided by a committee which will be elected from within the CSG membership. For the first 12 months the committee has been agreed as the following.
- James Henderson, Atkins Ltd – Sector Group Chair
- Martin Halpin, J Murphy & Sons Ltd – Sector Group Vice Chair
- Mithila Achintha, University of Southampton – R&D Task Group Chair
- Neil Farmer, Tony Gee and Partners
- Brian Bell, Independent Consultant (ex-Network Rail)
- Simon Eves, Pipex px
- Suzanne Wood, Construction Composites
- John Drewett, Concrete Repairs Ltd
- Neil Loudon, Highways England
- Jim Quinn, James Quinn Associates
- Rob Dean, Network Rail
Promotional activities
The CSG will organise focused promotional activities and events and provide a direct link to government through the Composites Leadership Forum and representation thereon through the Chair of the CSG.
It will also work closely with the construction lead within BIS to ensure future funding calls and strategy developments are relevant to composites and construction requirements, the association reports.
