Geotextiles manufacturer Beaulieu Technical Textiles (BTT), based in Comines-Warneton, Belgium, is introducing a new service in its mission to deliver sustainable solutions to customers –Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
These are being viewed as essential tools for communicating sustainable performance to fully support green certified construction projects by providing accurate information in readily available formats.
An EPD shows a manufacturer’s commitment to measuring and reducing the environmental impact of its products and report these impacts in a very transparent way.
Construction products with geotextiles follow the very comprehensive European standard EN 15804+A2. Third-party verification and approval by the international EPD System officially demonstrates the low environmental impact of BTT’s performance fabrics.
“The environmental reflex is no longer an option or a ‘nice to have’– it lies at the heart of what BTT does and what we stand for,” said the company’s sales manager Francis Denoo. “This EPD shows that our products fit perfectly in the global drive to reduce our carbon footprint and those of our customers. The use of our woven geotextiles in infrastructure projects reduces CO2-emissions by a factor of 10 compared to more conventional methods such as gravel. The official document can be referred to by our customers in bidding for tenders.”
EPDs on geosynthetics bring more transparency and help carbon-conscious purchasing and decision making. Registered EPDs are globally recognised, publicly available and free to download through EPD Libraries.
