Dornbirn Man-Made Fibers Congress

The 52nd Dornbirn MFC that already registered an increased number of early participants, will focus on topics such as sustainability, innovation and communication. The Congress will take place from 11-13 September in Dornbirn and will welcome about 800 participants from 30 different countries.

The 52nd Dornbirn MFC that already registered an increased number of early participants, will focus on topics such as sustainability, innovation and communication. The Congress will take place from 11-13 September in Dornbirn and will welcome about 800 participants from 30 different countries.

Programme

On the opening day students of the HTL Dornbirn will present an innovative fashion show that will include a sequence of garments made from Tencel fibres from Lenzing.

The plenary session will be opened by Friedrich Weninger, president of the Austrian Man-Made Fibers Institute. In his speech he will deal with the challenges and potentials for the industry.

Within the framework of the opening session the awarding of the Paul Schlack Wilhelm Albrecht prize will take place, followed by a short presentation of the awarded work.

CIRFS (European Man-made Fibres Association) will report about the future challenges for the European man-made fibres industry, followed by HUVIS Corporation with a presentation about the current status of the Korean man-made fibre industry and the trends of technological developments. The German Institute of Textile and Fiber Research, Center for Management Research will present a lecture on ‘The Textile Revolution – Trends and Challenges at the New Start of the Textile Industry’.

The morning plenary session will be closed with a presentation of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition ‘The HIGG Index and Collaboration in the Apparel Industry’.

Lectures

The 104 individual lectures in all sections will present within the topic ‘Market Overviews’, exploring case studies about new markets in Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea and Turkey, innovations with ‘Centres of Excellence’, and a world class textile production in India.

The most important topic ‘Fibre Innovation’ will be introduced by EURATEX with proposals for EU financed fibre and textile research projects. CPSC (US Consumer Product Safety commission) will also feature the programme.

For the first time lectures will focus on the key technologies in spinning processes. Other topics like ‘Sustainable Solutions for the Fibre Industry’ will cover new findings in the field of biopolymers. ‘Finishing’ will focus on efficient use of raw materials and energy-efficient finishing methods,  ‘Unconventional Fibre Applications’ will discuss medical applications, innovative fields for carbon fibres and recycling concepts. ‘Sports and Functional Wear’ will address monitoring topics, climate aspects, garments for an ageing society, IR-reflecting garments and more.

ITMF annual assembly

Prior to the Dornbirn MFC, ITMF (International Textile Manufacturers Federation) will hold its annual meeting from 8-10 September in Bregenz with the main aim to encourage the exchange of know-how between users of cotton and man-made fibres.

Some 200 decision makers worldwide from fibres, textiles, auxiliaries, textile machinery as well as high ranking delegations from national associations, such as AFMA, JCFA, KOFOTI, and from Taiwan Man-Made Fibre Industries Association are expected to attend.
