Meridian Specialty Yarn Group breaks ground on new US textile plant

Once completed, the new production facility will expand Meridian's current operations in Valdese by 113,000 square feet.

Meridian Specialty Yarn Group, (MSYG), the leading specialty yarn manufacturer in the US and a leading producer of package dyed and space dyed yarn, has officially broken ground on a new, multi-million-dollar textile plant in Valdese, NC, USA.

Once completed, the new production facility will expand Meridian's current operations in Valdese by 113,000 square feet. The new facility will also produce tow dyed acrylic for vertical integration with the company's Ranlo, NC, plant, the company reports.

Ground breaking ceremony

The ground breaking ceremony for new US 8 million textile plant expansion took place at Meridian Specialty Yarn Group, Valdese, NC, last week. The event took place next to location where construction is about to commence, followed by a reception in the lobby at MSYG.

The participants of the ceremony included: Tim Manson, President of MSYG; Valdese Mayor Pro Tem Susan Stevenson; and Representatives from Meridian Specialty Yarn Group, the Town of Valdese, Burke County, Burke County Development Inc., Burke Chamber of Commerce, Strickland Construction and Galvanin, S.A.

Construction

The plans to start construction were announced this winter. The new 113,000 square feet manufacturing plant will be located at the company’s current manufacturing site in Valdese, NC.

The completion of the project, which includes renovations to the company’s existing 152,000 square feet plant, is expected by early winter 2017 and will greatly expand Meridian’s current capabilities. The company anticipates spending US 8 million on the expansion.

Meridian Specialty Yarn Group

Meridian Specialty Yarn Group is the leading specialty yarn manufacturer in the United States. At the company’s wet processing plant in Valdese, NC, Meridian offers package dyed yarn, space dyed yarn, top dyed wool, yarn printing and twisting.

At the novelty spinning operation in Ranlo, NC, the company produces coarse count novelty yarn from various substrates using six different yarn formation technologies. The end uses for these yarns include home furnishings, hosiery, industrial, craft and apparel.
