Many years of experience with woven wool moquette substrates have provided Camira Fabrics with a leading position in the production of transport fabrics and the company’s joint development project with printing technology specialist Zimmer Austria showed promising results from the start.

To boost the quality of its end-products, Camira initially invested in a Zimmer Colaris 12-1200 laboratory printer together with a post-print finishing line, allowing it to develop printed transport fabrics in a near-to-production environment at laboratory scale. An intensive optimisation process – including modifications in the raw material and a search for the best chemistry – proved that the high standards for transport fabrics could be matched with printed wool moquette substrates.

Based on the findings of the Camira laboratory team, Zimmer Austria Digital Printing Systems then engineered the most economic process for the bulk production of the approved samples.

Within less than a year from placing the order – and despite the restrictions of the pandemic – a complex Colaris digital inkjet print line was designed, manufactured, delivered, installed and integrated into Camira’s production facilities in West Yorkshire, UK.

Camira has now launched its Camira Print service which removes many of the design constraints associated with traditional woven textiles enabling fabrics to be created without any restrictions on pattern repeats, scale or colour. With a variety of design options, customers also have the flexibility to choose from a range of ready-made prints in standard colours, opt for custom colours, or create something entirely new, working with the company’s in-house design studio to develop totally bespoke designs.

“We’ve worked hard to provide customers with a design option for every need,” said Ciara Crossan, transport creative manager at Camira. “With the Camira Print collection, we have brought together a selection of palettes and trend-led patterns to provide customers with a ready-made range of printed fabrics which can be dispatched within days.”
