T Shirt and Sons, a solution provider for integrated print on demand, has taken delivery of the first Kornit Vulcan system to be sold into Europe. Kornit’s Vulcan is a cost-effective digital printing platform for short to medium print runs. According to the company, it reaffirms T Shirt and Son’s position as the leader of direct-to-garment printing and fulfilment in Europe.
T Shirt and Sons already has a fleet of 16 Kornit Avalanche systems, and this new purchase is expected to significantly increase production capacity. “Digital printing is changing the way the industry buys printed T-shirts. Digital printing enables brands to produce short runs of printed garments, without the costly setups and lead times associated with screen print,” the company says.
“In an age where manufacturers are looking at ways to reduce stock exposure, the Kornit Vulcan ticks all the boxes. Now there is no need any more to produce expensive screens, and sampling is just at the press of a button.”
Mass production
The Kornit Vulcan has been developed specifically for mass production, with high definition print. It utilises the new NeoPigment Rapid ink system, with increased colour gamut and soft hand feel.
T Shirt and Sons was founded in 1989 by brothers Jon and Andy Lunt. It is the largest digital garment print and fulfilment company in Europe, with two facilities – one in the UK and the other in the Netherlands. The company operates one Kornit Vulcan short run digital press and 16 Kornit Avalanche 1000/R. T Shirt and Sons can produce 18,000 DTG garments per day. It prints on demand and provides a full service from order to delivery direct to customer or store.
Kornit systems
Kornit’s direct-to-garment flagship is the fastest direct-to-garment printing system in the market, capable of producing up to 250 high quality garments per hour, with dark and light garments printed at the same speed. The Vulcan produces photorealistic quality, featuring 60 new-generation print-heads with an advanced recirculating ink system in a six-colour-plus-white configuration.
The system caters for multiple print sizes and configurations with a maximum print size of 70x100 cm / 27.5x39.5 in. Like all other Kornit systems, the Vulcan was developed around the company’s unique NeoPigment patented printing process. Kornit’s own water-based inks work on a variety of fibres (natural, man-made and blends) and allow for inline-pre-treatment. After printing, garments are cured with a standard hot-air dryer. The inks are Oeko-Tex 100 certified and GOTS pre-approved.
