Premium Swedish outdoor kidswear brand Isbjörn is adding Ocean Waste Econyl regenerated nylon to its popular Sun collection for Spring/Summer 2023.

Econyl transforms nylon waste from the ocean into regenerated nylon, with the same durability as new nylon. It can be recycled, recreated and remoulded many times over, which enables new products like Isbjörn’s non-chemical Sun products to be created without having to use new resources.

Bluesign system partner Isbjörn recently outlined a sustainability pledge, including reducing emissions by at least 50% by 2033, being net zero by 2045 and becoming a fully circular brand.

As well as upgrading the material, Isbjörn has also redesigned its SPF50+ Sun products, which protect young children from harmful UV rays, to include a contrasting ocean graphics on its new Dolphin Sun jumpsuit and Sealion Sun sweater. The new ocean design will also be incorporated into Isbjörn’s Tencel Tee collection.

“Our Econyl Sun collection is an important step towards our goal of phasing out virgin microplastics by 2026,” said production and sustainability manager Selma Jakobsson. “Some conventional swimwear can release microplastics, but our collection is resistant to pilling and made from recycled fishing nets, ensuring that no new microplastics are released into the sea.”
