Global workwear textile manufacturer Carrington Textiles can now certify the number of plastic bottles recycled to produce every metre of its Delamere 195 sustainable workwear polycotton, aiming to add more transparency to the company’s supply chain and offer customers environmentally friendly fabrics with added value.

A total of 11.3 plastic bottles per metre are used to produce the recycled polyester fibres in Delamere 195 white. These bottles are post-consumer waste collected from around the world and processed by Repreve to create a recycled polyester that can be used for a wide range of textiles offering the same quality, appearance and performance as virgin polyester.

This recycled polyester fibre helps offset the use of petroleum, emitting fewer greenhouse gases and conserving water and energy in the process. It also diverts plastic bottles from landfills and oceans.

“Repreve’s polyester is made with recycled plastic bottles that are converted into a high quality chip which is melted into liquid polymer and extruded to create the fibre,” explains Sean Moore, Carrington’s quality assurance manager.

Bottle count certification can be obtained for any of Carrington’s fabrics using recycled polyester from Repreve, including Delamere 195, 210 and 245.

The Delamere family of workwear fabrics is part of Carrington’s Balance Range of sustainable products and includes 65% Repreve recycled polyester and 35% Better Cotton in its composition. The fabrics offer advanced abrasion resistance while providing a soft drape.
