Singapore-based FibreTrace has received a European patent for its photon marker system, designed to accelerate traceability across the global fashion and textiles industry and ensure brands are being held accountable for their sustainability claims.

The FibreTrace system embeds luminescent pigments onto fibres at their raw source or at the spinning mill. The pigment bonds and is indestructible throughout the entire textile processing cycle.

The luminescent pigment is non-toxic and has no impact on the product. It has also been tested and passed safety standards for human skin contact. The pigments can be read and tracked at every stage of the supply chain through the use of a handheld or inline FibreTrace hardware device which scans and reads the brand’s individual signature created in the luminescent pigment.

Each audit is recorded on the blockchain and is secure, accessible and irrefutable. Scans or audits are recorded and can be accessed in real time across the product journey.

The new patent – EP3538692 – recognises the company’s continued work to push the industry towards a completely traceable and transparent era of sustainable textiles, combining physical and digital traceability with the power of authentication and quantification.

FibreTrace received its US Patent – 10,247,667 B2 – for its photon markers on April 2 2019.
