Faurecia is now fully committed to expanding the use of composites in its products – particularly for semi-structural parts – and at recent motor industry shows has been showcasing its Composite Lab.
While swapping steel for lighter metals like aluminium or magnesium helps reduce vehicle weight, the company observes, this approach is not sufficient to meet the new 2021 fuel efficiency standards, which will limit CO2 emissions to 95g per kilometre – a 27% reduction from the 2015 limit of 130g.
