Vancouver, Canada-headquartered General Recycled is partnering with Kuala Lumpur-based Doite to establish a closed loop recycling programme for flame-resistant workwear garments for Malaysia and the surrounding region.

Doite specialises in the supply of workwear for industrial markets, supplying PPE primarily to the oil and gas, LNG and engineering industries.

Established in 2012, General Recycled recycles flame resistant, non-biodegradable garments from the industrial workwear market and working with existing value chain partners turns the used garments back into usable fibres, yarns and certified FR fabrics.

It has established a complete closed loop system for the recycling, spinning and resale of para-aramid fibres in Canada. These high value fibres are used extensively in workwear, are 5-6 times as strong as steel and are inherently flame resistant. They are 100% non-degradable and cannot be incinerated, so if not recycled they inevitably end up in landfill.

In Canada, General Recycling partners with end-users in the oil and gas and other industries to take back garments at their end of life, and also takes back waste from garment manufacturers. Now, a similar system is planned for Malaysia.
