This autumn sees the coming together of two icons of the fashion and textile world – technical textile brand Ventile and Dr Martens.
As part of the upcoming Dr Martens Made In England range, Ventile L24 fabric in Blaze Orange and black has been selected as the specialist fabric to be fashioned into a staple of British style, the Dr Martens 1460 boot.
The Ventile fabric is made from 100% extra-long-staple cotton yarns which are sustainably sourced. The fibres are spun, twisted and woven to create the world’s densest cotton fabric.
The boots will make up part of the brand’s 2021 edition of its Made In England range which pays tribute to the history and heritage of Dr Martens. The construction will be managed at the Dr Martens Cobbs Lane factory where it will be put into production alongside the other footwear in the Made In England range. Combining the best-selling Ventile L24 fabric with the finest craftsmanship of the Northamptonshire, UK-based factory, the 1460 boot will be created using traditional age-old shoe-making techniques, elevating the end product to a premium level.
Individually, both brands demonstrate the importance of heritage, provenance, and authenticity in the fashion and textiles marketplace. The boots see the coming together of Ventile – originally developed in England in 1943 for use by RAF pilots in World War 2 – and Dr Martens, a key segment of the British shoe industry since 1960.
“For Ventile to have been selected to be part of the upcoming collection is an honour,” said Ventile marketing manager Daniel Odermatt. “Dr Martens boots are a great example of bespoke craftsmanship and it is wonderful to see the coming together of brands that both have a strong heritage and a unique production processes.”
“We like to collaborate with suppliers who manufacture products with similar core values for quality and durability,” added Dr Martens senior footwear designer Stella Makinwa. “Ventile was the perfect choice with its rich heritage in performance and weather protection.”
