The Lycra Company has this week been showcasing its sustainable offerings at Intertextile Shanghai (August 27-29), including bio-derived Lycra fibre made with Qira, the industry’s first renewable spandex available at scale which will be launched in the first half of 2025.

Made from annually grown field corn, the new fibre has been calculated to reduce the carbon footprint of Lycra fibre by up to 44% while delivering equivalent performance to the original Lycra.

Lycra FiT400, meanwhile, is a unique bicomponent fibre engineered to optimise the comfort and performance of knits while delivering a durable, soft hand feel, all-day stretch, long-lasting fit and cooling comfort. This Global Recycled Standard-certified fibre contains 60% recycled PET and 14.4% bio-derived resources.

Coolmax EcoMade fibre is made from 100% textile waste and delivers cool and dry comfort to various garment types, while Thermolite EcoMade fibre, also made from 100% textile waste, adds lightweight warmth.

“We have been thrilled to showcase our sustainable solutions at Intertextile,” said Jason Wang, Lycra vice president for Asia. “They will help our customers reduce their carbon footprint and support their sustainability goals.”

Hong Kong-based Regina Miracle, a leading garment maker and a key value chain partner, also exhibited garment samples based on Lycra Adaptiv – one of the company’s fastest-growing products which enables inclusive sizing and delivers a second-skin fit.
