Portugese fabric manufacturer Riopele has teamed up with Lenzing and Södra to create textiles made from recycled textile waste and wood cellulose that will make their debut in the Spring/Summer 24 collection of Swedish fashion brand Filippa K.
OnceMore pulp from Södra is the world’s first raw material made from regenerated blended textile waste in a large-scale process and is being used as a raw material in Lenzing’s Tencel X Refibra.
The aim is to have an annual capacity of 25,000 tons of Once More pulp by 2025.
“Our target is to always create a better product than the alternatives and generate as much value as possible throughout the value chain from the 51,000 forests of our members,” said Södra CEO Lotta Lyrå. “This first-in-class collaboration between OnceMore Filippa K, Lenzing and Riopele is an important step to achieve this and keep working on blended-fibre waste to create a circular textile system. We have created a unique collaboration throughout the value chain with fibres and fabrics made from a combination of textile waste and wood cellulose.”
“We are so excited to be the first brand developing products from the new textile based on OnceMore pulp using Lenzing’s Refibra technology, and supported by Riopele’s creative expertise in yarn and fabric production,” added Jodi Everding, vice president of sustainability at Filippa K.
More information about the fibre, collaboration and garments will be made available in the coming months.
