Steelhead fabricated a type 3 COPV using only recycled continuous carbon fibre tow supplied by Vartega. The fibre was recycled with Vartega’s proprietary process and sized by Michelman. This collaboration marks the first time that waste continuous tow carbon fibre has been reclaimed, recycled, and put back into the original manufacturing process. Recycled carbon fibre has been relegated to secondary products as chopped fibre or filler to date, but the development sets a new precedent for the future of continuous carbon fibre tows, the companies say.
