Fulgar, an Italian leader in the production of synthetic and coated yarns, will be a distributor of Rhodia’s Amni Soul Eco biodegradable polyamide yarn for the European market.

The Rhodia -Solvay Group, an international company specialising in the development of chemical products, launched its innovative product at the ITMA 2015 textile machinery trade fair. According to the manufacturer, unlike other fibres that take decades to decompose, this innovative fibre takes only about three years to be eliminated from the planet.

The two companies worked together before on Emana, Rhodia’s polyamide 6.6 based intelligent yarn which incorporates a patented additive. It is said to offer thermo-regulation properties and improve blood micro-circulation when in contact with the skin for more than six hours.

Environmental issues are playing a crucial role in the development of new textile solutions, the company reports. The disposal of growing amounts of waste is an important problem facing our planet. Every year, over a million items of clothing are thrown away.

With its Amni Soul Eco, Rhodia aims to address these issues, by introducing a high-performance product that also respects the environment throughout its lifecycle, contributing to an overall reduction in textile waste.

The product is also internationally Oeko-Tex certified (standard 100, class 1). This sustainable innovation has been already recognised by two awards, including the Kurt Pulitzer Prize, awarded by ABIQUIM (an association of chemical industries), and one from the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM).

Eco-friendly solution

“Strengthened by an improved formula polyamide 6.6, unlike most synthetic fibres Amni Soul Eco biodegrades in less than three years. This enables the production of garments that decompose rapidly,” the company explains.

“The innovative yarn is eco-friendly in both the disposal and production stage. Careful water re-use during production avoids waste, while the special treatment applied to greenhouse gases help ensure that the ozone level remains unchanged.”

The garments made using fabrics containing the special yarn are said to offer excellent comfort, wear, breathability, easy-wash and quick-dry properties. “Versatile and ideal for a wide range of applications, Amni Soul Eco is suitable for every type of fabric production process, providing the textile industry with a unique opportunity to create quality products for different garment sectors,” the company reports.
