The Future Fashion Factory has secured a further £1 million to deliver another round of grant funding to UK textile businesses. This is part of the £15 million Circular Fashion and Textile Programme which is being delivered by Leeds Institute of Textiles and Colour and the Future Fashion Factory working in partnership with Innovate UK.
The aim is to enable textile businesses to adopt more sustainable operations, driving the UK to become the global leader in circular fashion and textiles and to best transition towards Net Zero models.
The Future Fashion Factory has already supported over 50 company-based innovative R&D projects, in which businesses work alongside academic collaborators from a consortium of University of Leeds, University of Huddersfield and the Royal College of Art.
Grants of up to £50,000 will be awarded to businesses who successfully meet one or more of the key themes of Circular Business Models, Novel Technologies, Sustainable Manufacturing, Sustainable Fashion Ecosystem, Diverse and Future-Proof Workforce and Green Growth.
For this funding round, the lead applicant must be a small or micro company with less than 50 employees, a turnover of under £10.2 million and a balance sheet of not more than £5.1 million. Projects must start by 1st October 1st 2024 and complete no later than 31st March 31st 2025.

“This is an exciting opportunity for researchers from different academic backgrounds and industry to come together to address data and evidence gaps relating to the sustainability and environmental impacts of the sector,” says Professor Stephen Russel of University of Leeds. “These projects will help us to establish comprehensive and scientifically validated, environmental and design baselines for the fashion and textile industry that will inform future decision-making.”
