Designed with outdoor pursuits in mind, the range is made entirely in organic Ventile. The collection comprises of both menswear and womenswear ranges including jackets, shirts and trousers and has been in development for over a year.

Ventile Organic Cotton

Ventile Organic Cotton fabric is sustainably grown without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilisers and is made using methods that have a low impact on the environment. The fabric is produced with an organic extra-long staple yarn, which accounts for only 0.04% of cotton production worldwide.

“The fabric’s structure means that the Hilltrek x Ventile organic range is breathable, soft and durable and unlike synthetic fabrics, the use of cotton Ventile results in a finished garment that is quiet and does not rustle during movement making the range perfect for bird watchers, hikers, photographers and naturalists who want to blend in with the countryside environment,” the company explains.

New collection

The new collection sees Hilltrek selecting its best-selling Glencoe and Greenspot jackets and giving them an organic makeover. As with the Hilltrek’s original Ventile ranges, customers can fully customise their garments choosing from a customisation suite including additional pit-zips, pockets, length alteration and even opting for a bespoke made to measure garment if preferred. Each customised garment is hand finished to guarantee quality.

The range launches for autumn and comes in seven colourways: black, olive, navy, charcoal, spruce green and survival yellow. Hilltrek have included organic cotton versions of the best-selling styles Blaven trouser, Kintail shirt and Braemar smock.

Each item in the Ventile Organic range pays homage to Hilltrek’s Scottish roots. © Hilltrek“Over the past three years we have seen a 115% growth in the sale of Ventile Organic Cotton Fabric, the largest growth ever reported for our brand. Such growth indicates a strong demand for organic and sustainable solutions from global retail markets and consumers across multiple sectors. The new Organic Ventile cotton offers designers and brands such as Hilltrek, an organic alternative to our traditional Ventile fabrics. We look forward to working with the Hilltrek and other brands on future collaborations using our Ventile Organic fabric,” said Daniel Odermatt, Marketing Manager at Ventile.

Scottish roots

Each item in the Ventile Organic range pays homage to Hilltrek’s Scottish roots by featuring a Pictish logo. Settlers originating from the North of Scotland, the Picts, are known for the engraved stones they created. Pictish stones, which can be found from Inverness to Lanarkshire, depict symbols, shapes, patterns, and images of household objects. For the Ventile Organic collection, Hilltrek has developed a logo, which incorporates an oval shaped symbol found on the stones.

“Hilltrek has a long and successful partnership with Ventile dating back over 32 years.  We have been working for over a year to develop and bring this organic collection to the market. We are very proud of the products we have created, the additional offering we can now provide to our customers, and the environmental credentials of the fabrics available in the outdoor industry,” commented Dave Shand, Director at Hilltrek.
