FET line will accelerate fibre innovation at CETI

CETI, the research centre based in Tourcoing, France, has just installed an FET 100 bicomponent melt spinning system supplied by the UK’s Fibre Extrusion Technology at its Polymer Business Unit.

With investment of over €12 million, the Polymer BU already houses three lines from Hills for tri-component melt spinning, bicomponent spundbond and bicomponent meltblown, in addition to lines from Coperion and Erema. Its focus is on driving innovation in the fibre and nonwovens industries and reducing the environmental impactsof textiles through the development of circular business models.

“This bicomponent FET-100 extrusion module, coupled to an FET-101 multifilament drawing unit and a high-speed auto-revolving up take-up winder, is capable of processing a wide range of polymers including PET, PA and biodegradable and home-compostable materials,” said director of the BU Javier Vera Sorroche. “Thanks to its unique design, it is also capable of processing all types of POY and FOY yarns.”

The new line will enable CETI to fabricate shaped fibres which will provide a step change in functionality compared to traditional fibres and fabrics. The inherent flexibility and versatility of the system will allow fibres to be engineered for applications in apparel, automotive, construction, home furnishing, filtration and personal care and hygiene.
