Alexium International has announced that its affiliate company Alexium Government Solutions LLC (AGS) has been awarded a US Government contract to develop FR treatments on military fabrics.

The work will be completed over a 4 month period as Phase I of a US Marine Corps SBIR project and has a value of USD$80,000. An additional USD$70,000 option can be exercised at the discretion of the DoD in Phase I and after completion Alexium can be invited to proceed to a Phase II with additional funding of up to USD$1Million.

The contract award is in addition to the project proposal submitted by Alexium in response to a US Army request to develop and provide a multi-threat protection for soldiers focused on providing flame retardancy in combination with chemical/biological protection, announced by Alexium earlier this week. “This project will accelerate the development of our FR treatments to nylon blends, such as nylon/cotton and provide valuable additional product development resources. This is a great opportunity for Alexium to take its innovative Fire Retardant (FR) technology for nylon and extend it into new markets. We appreciate the project support from the US Marine Corps and will work to quickly develop a technical solution tailored to their requirements,” stated Stefan Susta, AGS’s President and Alexium’s Chief Operating Officer.

Alexium anticipates beginning work on this US Marine Corps project over the next few months, supporting ongoing, parallel product development activities in this area. The project is based on Alexium’s innovative non-halogenated FR chemistry for synthetic fabrics and combining it with FR chemistries typically used for cellulosic fibres.

The project will be executed and managed by Alexium’s affiliate, AGS in South Carolina. Nicholas Clark, Alexium’s newly appointed US based CEO stated: “This is another example of Alexium’s strong future and strategic growth plan. With our current partnership with Duro and the further opportunities Alexium is currently working on, this year is showing to be an exciting period for the company”.
