Hyosung Advanced Materials, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, has obtained the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS, a global sustainability certification programme for bio-based and circular recycled raw materials.

ISCC PLUS is presented to sustainable and low-carbon products that meet the Renewable Energy Directives (RED) of the EU. This certification is recognised to be highly reliable across the globe as it requires strict verification of the entire process, from raw material supply to production and distribution.

Hyosung Advanced Materials is the first tyre cord player to acquire the certification through the application of eco-friendly raw materials, such as bio-based PET and mechanical and chemical recycled PET, ET in its tyre cord products. The company’s bio-PET yarn employs plant-derived materials, and its high-strength recycled PET yarn uses materials extracted from waste PET bottles. In addition, to respond to more diverse environmental needs, the company is developing bio-based nylon yarn and tyre cords.

Global tyre companies including Bridgestone and Hankook, and OEMs such as BMW have also obtained the ISCC PLUS, signalling that interests and demand are increasing for eco-friendly products.

“I believe that our efforts in R&D have been recognised by obtaining the certification,” said Hyosung Advanced Materials CEO Lee Kun-jong. “Building on this momentum, we will lead the eco-friendly product market by strengthening cooperation with global customers.”
