PrimaLoft, Inc. has been awarded the OWPG’s (Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild) renowned Derryck Draper award for its innovative and sustainable manufacturing process. The awarding panel singled out PrimaLoft P.U.R.E. (Produced Using Reduced Emissions) renewable manufacturing technology, which reduces CO2 by up to 70% during the production process.

The Derryck Draper award recognises innovation in outdoor products and services and is judged by some of the UK’s foremost experts in outdoor equipment. This year’s judges, Alex Roddie from Sidetracked magazine and Chris Townsend from TGO magazine, commented:

“In recent years PrimaLoft has been a leader in developing recycled and sustainable synthetic insulation and fabrics. Now the company has turned its attention to the manufacturing process with PrimaLoft P.U.R.E., which results in 70% CO2 savings. At a time when solving the climate crisis is crucial, this is a very praiseworthy breakthrough and a fine example to other companies.”

PrimaLoft’s innovative P.U.R.E. manufacturing technology has been a key focus for the expert development team at PrimaLoft, as part of the company’s ongoing Relentlessly Responsible mission to be as sustainable as possible, without any compromise on its high-performance products.

The company also significantly reduces carbon emissions throughout its entire product range, by using recycled polyester instead of virgin fibres.

The Derryck Draper Award, named in memory of one of the OWPG’s founders and past chairs, is given to a member of the outdoor gear trade for outstanding innovation in outdoor equipment design and materials. This year’s award to PrimaLoft was announced at the Guild’s annual weekend and awards ceremony at Malham Tarn, Yorkshire on 8 October 2021.

“This is always a big occasion in the outdoor world” said outgoing Guild chair Peter Gillman. “It was fitting to see PrimaLoft again take a deserved place among other winners for the company’s contribution to sustainability and uncompromised performance.”
