Regular new developments in processes and ideas enable many textile companies to meet the needs of the markets and thus realise the wishes and demands of their customers, according to Oeko-Tex.

The Spanish company Pascual y Bernabeu S.A., a specialist in the innovative textile finishing and dying of fabrics made of cotton, artificial fibres and wool, as well as their mixes, has become an Oeko-Tex Company of the Month for May 2015.

Pascual y Bernabeu was one of the first textile companies to successfully meet the requirements of the STeP by Oeko-Tex certification system, with a focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly production processes, as well as socially responsible framework conditions for all employees.

Specialist in finishing processes

The textile company, which is located in Cocentaina in the province of Alicante, has become a specialist in finishing processes for high-quality fabrics made of cotton, artificial fibres and wool, and also their mixes.

It is primarily well-known furniture manufacturers and interior designers, who choose the first class material collections with evocative product names such as Mystic, Linova, Caprice, Velonia and Enoa. The customer can choose from a broad spectrum of different material qualities in a wide selection of colours and attractive designs.

Special finishing processes are also said to meet requirements for modern decoration, curtains and upholstery fabrics, such as non-iron or non-crease, as well as additional characteristics, such as a water, stain or fire resistant finish, the company reports.

The company's internal Research and Development department constantly works on new solutions and creations for customers as well as innovative process designs. In doing this, the concept of sustainability also plays a key role in the company.

“We focus strongly on sustainability and environmental protection with the careful use of resources that is far in excess of the statutory required limit,” explained Miguel Amorós, Technical Manager. “This is why it was so important to be able to communicate to the outside world our particular commitment to environmental protection, sustainability and social responsibility through certification in accordance with the guidelines of the STeP by Oeko-Tex certification system.”

In November 2013, Pascual y Bernabeu became the first company in Spain to be awarded the STeP by Oeko-Tex certificate for its Sustainable Textile Production.

The aim of STeP certification is the long-term implementation of environmentally friendly production processes, the maximum level of health and safety, and socially responsible working conditions.

“The modular structure of STeP by Oeko-Tex enables each inspected department to be weighted individually and this gives a comprehensive analysis of our status quo. In addition, the analysis shows us the areas in which we can optimise our performance to gain the best competitive advantage,” said Miguel Amorós.
