At this week’s Milano Unica trade fair, in Milan, Italy, from January 30 to February 1, Tokyo-based Yagi will present its Praweft brand based on Nishijin-ori textiles developed in collaboration with the Nishijin Textile Industrial Association.
Since the 1400s, Nishijin-ori craftsmen have been producing world-class textiles unique to the Kyoto region of Japan, mainly for kimonos, obis and other Japanese garments, as well as for use in interior decoration.
These intricate, multi-coloured textiles are primarily based on silk interwoven with gold and silver yarns and have unlimited possibilities both in fashion textiles as well as in bags and accessories.
With the Praweft range, Yagi is aiming to establish Nishijin-ori designs and techniques in Western-style clothing.
