Officina+39, the Biella, Italy-headquartered supplier of sustainable chemicals for the textiles, garments and denim industries, has become a member of the bluesign network, of St Gallen, Switzerland.

“Supporting the development of a better industry is extremely important to us and this partnership is a huge new step towards what we hope will be a shared change for good,” said Officina+39 managing director Andrea Venier.

The company’s range of chemical specialties, dyestuffs and pigments, as well as selected eco-compatible chemical auxiliaries, are each developed in compliance with rigorous safety and quality standards.

Among its portfolio highlights, Aqualess Mission combines three process components – Remover BC, a laser booster, Aqualess Aged, a waterless compound to give denim abrasion effects, and Ozone Powder, an advanced product to give garments a bleached yet eco-friendly treatment in a dry application,

Compared to traditional treatments, the Aqualess Mission process allows for water consumption savings of up to 75%, reducing the overall water usage from an average of 52 litres to only 12.5 litres for a pair of jeans. The process is also compatible with conventional washing and treatment machinery.

The Recycrom range of pigment powders is meanwhile obtained through an upcycling process that involves textile fibres from used clothing and manufacturing waste from dyeing and printing applications.

As a partner in sustainable trends for the apparel industry Officina+39 has recently moved into new premises in Biella, housing a state-of-the-art application laboratory for the development of sustainable new products and processes.
