Thailand-headquartered Cobra International has claimed the 2025 JEC World Innovation Award in the Design, Furniture and Home category for its development of carbon fibre-based furniture.
Cobra partnered with fellow Thai-based Aditya Birla Chemicals, Luxara Design and Burapha University and South Korea’s Hankuk Carbon in the design, engineering and manufacturing of the range, which includes the striking and sleek Liana table and Loop barstool.
These are largely based on recyclable epoxy resins and employ recycled raw materials.
The Liana table is based on Aditya Birla’s Recyclamine resins, Hankuk high-modulus carbon prepreg and Cobra’s BMC (bulk moulding compound) carbon production waste for its structure. Neolith, a 100% sustainable artificial marble with 52% recycled content and Hankuk woven carbon fabrics provide the exceptional surface finish.
The Loop barstool again uses Recyclamine resins and Hankuk carbon over a recyclable PET core for a high-end yet sustainable seating solution.
The thin and strong structure of both products is only achievable with carbon fibre, ensuring their light weight and durability.
