Karl Mayer will showcase solutions for composites made of natural fibres at the forthcoming JEC World composites show in Paris from May 3-5.

“We have been focusing on this topic for about two years,” said Hagen Lotzmann, sales manager at Karl Mayer Technical Textiles. “ Since in-person exhibitions were cancelled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, we’re only just getting an opportunity to show our samples and products now. We are looking forward to premiering these new developments,”

In Paris, he and his team will present a snowboard made from a non-crimp fabric produced using flax fibres on the Cop Max 4 multiaxial warp knitting machine. As a renewable raw material, flax is a sustainable alternative to glass and carbon, which can only be manufactured using a great deal of raw materials and energy.

The company will also be exhibiting reinforcement solutions made from tried-and-tested high-performance fibres, including high-quality carbon non-crimp fabrics manufactured on a Cop Max 5 for aircraft and automotive construction, and warp-knitted fabrics with weft insertion made on the the Wefttronic II G. The company’s Sim.Ply UD unit meanwhile efficiently produces fibre composite tapes with continuous fibre reinforcement and thermoplastic matrix systems, while operating with uninterrupted process control at extremely high production speeds.

Stoll will also be exhibiting at JEC World for the first time. The Reutlingen-based flat knitting specialist is keen to exhibit its 3D-shaped knitwear, shaped knitted textiles with specially localised reinforcement and knitted articles made using glass, thermoplastics and high-strength fibres.
