Japan’s Kuraray is withdrawing from the drylaid nonwoven fabrics business and reducing its production capacity for meltblown nonwovens.

The company has manufactured and sold drylaid nonwoven fabrics since 1972 and meltblown nonwovens since 1989 but reports that in recent years it has faced difficulties due to the expansion of other companies in Asia and declining domestic demand.

As a result, Kuraray Kuraflex will end production at its drylaid plant in Okayama, Japan, this December, and end sales in March 2025. Meltblown lines at the Okayama plant have already been halted and production is being consolidated at the Saijo plant in Japan.
