Fresh from huge success with Speedo at the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, Lamoral Coatings will showcase its Space Tech PFAS-free durable water repellent (DWR) coatings at the forthcoming PerformanceDays exhibition in Munich from October 23-24.
The C0-DWR coatings were initially developed by the Dutch company in a project with the European Space Agency (ESA) to protect the surface of satellites and have been tested under the harshest conditions in space and further adapted for textiles.
They have an advanced branched adhesion mechanism that forms strong covalent bonds with textile fibres, ensuring superior water repellency and durability, even after repeated washing. Thanks to the branched, plant-based copolymer structure, the DWRs maintain their performance without degrading, ensuring fabrics stay protected longer.
With minimal water pick-up, these finishes ensure fabrics remain dry and durable and they are completely free from harmful fluorochemicals.
Lamoral is a Bluesign system partner, listed on the Bluesign Finder List, and is certified with the Oeko-Tex Eco Passport. It also participates in the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) programme to underscore a commitment to eliminating harmful chemicals from processes.
In November 2023, Speedo introduced its Fastskin LZR Intent and LZR Valor swimsuits developed by its Aqualab research and development facility in collaboration with Lamoral. These suits have the lowest water absorption and are the most durable and water repellent to date, providing a feeling of weightlessness.
At the Paris Olympics and Paralympics, their impact was convincing – in total 75 medals were won by athletes using the Fastskin swimsuits, including both world records and Olympic records.
