French yarn manufacturers Sofila, headquartered in Lyon, and Moulinage du Solier, based in Dunières, are to merge.

Sofila is one of the oldest firms working in yarn preparation, after starting out in silk in the 19th century. Today it supplies a wide range of yarns for the clothing, medical, technical textiles, furnishing, lace and accessories sectors.

Moulinage du Solier (MDS) has been a recognised expert in the development and preparation of yarns for technical applications for over 40 years, specifically for the automotive, aeronautics and defence industries. The company has developed its own yarns based on aramids for sensitive applications, including the well-known brands Nexocolor, Noemi and Try.

All Moulinage du Solier production equipment is now being transferred to Sofila’s site in Dunières. The transfer is being carried out in sequence over a period of three months in order to guarantee the same level of service to all clients during this period, without affecting current activities.

The merger of the two companies will provide an improved service, with an extended product range of yarns from 10 to more than 25,000 dtex and integrated twisting, assembly, wrapping, texturing and coating processes.

Pierre-Yves Suchail, current manager of Moulinage du Solier, will now take responsibility for the technical yarns division of Sofila.
