Noble Biomaterials, a leading manufacturer of advanced antimicrobial technologies, will be exhibiting a diverse range of products at Techtexil 2015, which takes place from 4-7 May in Frankfurt.
The company’s advanced conductive, infection prevention and odour elimination materials are designed to help detect, communicate and protect human physiological signals and protect fabrics from bacterial contamination.
Noble’s technologies have used by Olympic athletes, NASA astronauts and elite military forces. It has more than 200 global licensees for products in the medical, defence, industrial and consumer markets.
Potential of conductivity
The market of conductive technology is offering great opportunities for many companies to launch innovative products. Noble is partnering with several premier brands to provide the company’s expertise in areas such as shielding, which protects signal integrity, and transmitting, which allows the transfer of data.
Products in this category are diverse and include chest straps, wearable EKG vests, headbands and sports apparel with built-in electrodes and sensors. What these products monitor is just as varied, ranging from heart rate and brainwaves to force of impact to the head.
Healthcare market
Despite today's extensive efforts to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria, Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAIs) continue to be one of the world's most pressing and expensive healthcare battles. For instance, treating a patient with an HAI results in an incremental cost of more than US 40,000.
According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) approximately one in 18 patients in European hospitals has a healthcare-associated infection. This amounts to a total of 3.2 million patients each year.
Today’s standards for preventing HAIs focus on patient screening, isolation precautions, hand washing and hard surface disinfection. However, soft surfaces, one of the largest portions of the patient environment remain unaddressed. This step is perhaps the missing link in breaking the chain of infection and further reducing HAIs, the company reports.
Antimicrobial technology
Part of the solution, according to the manufacturer, are healthcare fabrics powered by the company's X-STATIC Antimicrobial Technology, which are clinically proven in laboratory studies to reduce bacterial growth on textile surfaces by 99.9% within one hour.
X-STATIC can inhibit the growth of multidrug-resistant strains of bacteria scrubs, privacy curtains, patient apparel and bedding. This advanced technology is available in several brands of healthcare apparel and fabrics including Arc-Com Privacy Curtains powered by X-STATIC and NMI Health, Inc’s SilverCare Plus Antimicrobial Scrubs powered by X-STATIC.
