INDA the US based nonwovens association has honoured European headquartered nonwovens producer Sandler for its sustainable bio textile by Sandler wet wipes substrate.

Sandler received the award in the Raw Materials category in the IDEA Achievement Awards at the recent IDEA show for hygiene, wipes and medical products, which takes place every three years in Miami Beach, Florida.

Sandler, from Schwarzenbach/Saale in Germany was amongst five international companies which were recognised for their product developments in various categories this year.

Carolin Weber, Sales Director Hygiene/Wipes was honoured to take the award in Miami on behalf of the company and Dave Rousse, president of INDA, thanked all finalists and winners, saying: “Their products were chosen by the industry as the best new products in the last three years and I believe each one is a testament to the innovative spirit that is so much a part of our industry.”

In cooperation with one of its raw material suppliers, Sandler developed bio textile by Sandler —a nonwoven substrate for babycare, cosmetic and cleaning wipes—with particular emphasis on sustainability. The nonwoven is made from 100% viscose fibres and is therefore biodegradable.

The raw material is obtained from wood grown in sustainable European forestry and the fibres as well as the nonwoven substrate itself are therefore certified according to the PEFC standard—a label for the sustainable handling of wood and products made from it.

bio textile by Sandler is an excellent choice, not only for environmentally conscious consumers,” Sandler said.

The substrate is produced on state-of-the-art production lines that are equipped with energy monitors, allowing for the optimisation of energy consumption during production. The nonwoven features high absorbency and particular softness and a specially developed leaf-design illustrates the commitment to sustainability. With the certification according to product class 1 of the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 bio textile by Sandler bears the label ‘Confidence in Textiles.’
