Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the EU Ecolabel, UK textile group Camira’s latest wool and polyester product launches have been awarded the EU Ecolabel. A wide selection of polyester fabrics is now also certified to the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, the company reports.

The EU Ecolabel is an independent label administered by the European Union which accredits the environmental sensitivity of products throughout their lifecycle. Camira’s first EU Ecolabel accreditation came in 2011 for a collection of recycled polyester fabrics, and in 2017 it has achieved certification for new fabrics Patina, Synergy, Synergy 170, Individuo and Rivet

“Sustainability considerations are at the heart of our design and manufacturing processes. We’re proud to have our developments in environmental innovation recognised by the EU Ecolabel and the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, which allows textile specifiers to create fully certified fabric schemes for commercial interiors,” commented Paul Arnold, Sustainability Manager.

New fabrics

Launched in February 2017, Patina is Camira’s newest performance wool and flax blend available in 43 different colourways. Synergy is made from premium New Zealand wool and available in 75 shades. Panel fabric Synergy 170 is available in 24 carefully selected Synergy colours and Individuo has a fluid, graduated appearance where no two areas of the fabric are same.

Rivet, meanwhile, is made from 100% Repreve, a brand of recycled polyester made from used plastic bottles. “Rivet celebrates Camira’s 20 years’ experience in designing and manufacturing recycled fabrics,” the company reports.

Oeko-Tex 100

In addition to expanding their EU Ecolabel award, Camira has been awarded Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification for 13 different polyester fabrics. The certification covers classic 100% recycled polyester fabrics like Xtreme and Lucia, and some of their more recent products, such as Aspect and Era.

Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is a worldwide testing and certification scheme for textiles which focuses on chemicals of concern within textile supply chains and end products to ensure the protection of human health.
