Ahlstrom-Munksjö, Freudenberg, Math2Market and Welspun India have all been shortlisted for the Filtrex Innovation Award, with the winner to be announced at Filtrex, the leading nonwovens filter media event that will take place from 14-15 May in Berlin.
The award recognises the efforts of nonwoven based filtration producers, honouring their continuous momentum in the search for new solutions and sustained high standards. Each nominee will present their entry at the event on 14 May.
Extia by Ahlstrom-Munksjö is a 100% synthetic, highly durable, pulse cleanable filter media, designed to last longer in all operating conditions. It it said to extend filtration lifetime, whilst effectively removing coarse particulates at a lower level of pressure drop.
micronAir Gas Shield is the newest innovation from Freudenberg Filtration Technologies’ to reliably protect passengers against harmful gases and unpleasant odours. It is a premium activated carbon selection for automotive cabin air filters. Three regionally customised activated carbon combinations are available to adsorb the most harmful gases and unpleasant odours.
The innovative and easy-to-use material simulator GeoDict by Math2Market is a complete solution for multi-scale 3D image processing and material modelling. FiberFind-AI module – the nominated product – uses modelled nonwoven microstructures to train a neural network to label binder with artificial 3D scans. After training, the neural network also recognizes the binder in 3D scans of real nonwovens.
Designed for industrial filtration, Welstrat by Welspun is a singed and calendared specialty needlefelt, suitable for mid temperature ranges from 140° to 180°C. Welstrat is said to offer excellent acid, alkali and hydrolysis resistance. High air permeability and lower mean pore size results in better efficiency and less energy consumption, according to the manufacturer.
In 2017, the Filtrex Innovation Award was won by Freudenberg Filtration Technologies. The company was honoured for its brand new micronAir blue filter, a highly efficient four-layer particle filter that features a patented two layered filter media focusing on PM 10 and PM 2.5 particles, as well as a combi-filter that protects against harmful gases and an anti-allergen filter layer.
Filter media, including all applications, are one of the fastest growing end-uses of nonwovens globally and in each continent. Increasing awareness for individuals and for authorities of the need to control our immediate environment, be it at home, in the workplace or while travelling means that filters, especially those made with nonwoven components play an essential role in our everyday lives.
Helping to promote the benefits of and demand for nonwoven filter media across the globe is a key area of support that EDANA provides to the industry, and the Filtrex conference provides manufacturers and companies along the supply chain with valuable insight and innovative ideas about their sector.
