Ahlstrom, a high performance fibre based materials company, has introduced Ahlstrom TrustShield, an extensive range of surgical drapes for the operating room.
The company’s broad range of single-use surgical drapes are said to offer consistent protection and performance, ensuring the safety of the surgical staff and patients.
Single-use nonwovens
Ahlstrom surgical drapes are made from single-use nonwovens and are said to be widely preferred to conventional linen as they provide a microbiological barrier and are an important part in the fight against Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI), the company reports.
In the operating room, the success of surgery is a combination of several factors and choosing the right material for a surgical drape is one of them. Fabric barrier and strength are key requirements for surgical drapes, yet other properties such as drapeability and linting must be taken into account to protect the patient and not interfere with the surgery process.
Surgical drapes range
Ahlstrom TrustShield surgical drapes range from absorbent to repellent, delivering the highest level of protection every time, the company reports.
Impervious and absorbent drapes made from laminate fabrics are designed for the most demanding surgeries creating a barrier to bacteria and viruses.
Ahlstrom's repellent SMS (spunbond-meltblown-spunbond) fabrics are designed for low-risk surgeries where minimal amounts of fluid are present.
